Limited parking is available at the 100K finish line at Emery Henderson. We recommend all 100K runners park at the Anthem Outlet mall in the morning before your race and take the shuttle bus. We will have a van to take you back to your car after your finish. For crews: if the parking lot is full at Emery Henderson TH, please park completely off the paved New River road along the dirt shoulder. 60K runners will park near the Black Canyon City TH in the morning and take the shuttle bus. Once you finish, you will be at your car.

Course Summary
Point to point on the non-motorized Black Canyon Trail (a National Recreation Trail) featuring a mixture of single track trail, jeep roads, and pieces of an old stagecoach route. The Black Canyon Trail is located on Bureau of Land Management land and is overseen by the Black Canyon Trail Coalition.

Shuttle Bus Details

Logistics
There will be a shuttle bus available on race morning for the 100K & 60K (tickets must be purchased here).

100K passengers will park and be shuttled from the Anthem Outlet Mall located a couple miles from the finish line at Emery Henderson Trailhead to the start line at Mayer High School in Spring Valley by 5:10am. After you finish your run, there will be a van shuttle to take you back to your car at Anthem Trailhead. The shuttle cost will be $8 / person and you can sign-up when you register for the race or with this link.

Other close lodging can be found off Happy Valley Road or in North Phoenix off I-17. The drive from Happy Valley Road & I-17 is approximately 15 minutes to the shuttle and 45 minutes to the race start.

Drop Bags

Drop bags are permitted for all races and must be brought to the start line of your race. Please see below for where drop bags are allowed. After you utilize your drop bag, place it in the used drop bag zone for transport to your finish line. As we have vehicles to do so, we will bring drop bags from the used zone to the finish line of your race. All remaining bags will be brought to the finish at the closing of each aid station (please keep this in mind if you are finishing early on in the day).

Benefit

Aravaipa Running will be giving back to the Black Canyon Trail each year through trail maintenance and a special project coinciding with each year’s race.  Our first goal is to help purchase and install signage on the length of the Black Canyon Trail used in the race.

Trail Running & Trash
Please respect the trails and the beauty of the land by disposing of any trash at one of our aid stations.

Race Timing
All runners will be provided with a race bib that must be worn at all times during the race.  You will be checked in and out of all aid stations on the course as well as chip timed at the finish line.

Drop Bags
Drop bags are permitted at the Hidden Treasure Mine, Gloriana Mine, Black Canyon City, Table Mesa, and Emery Henderson (Finish Line) Aid Stations. Please label  your drop bag with the appropriate aid station name, your bib number, last name and place next to the aid station signs at the start on race morning. Drop bags will be returned to the finish line as each aid station closes down.

Crewing
Crews will be allowed at the Antelope Mesa, Hidden Treasure Mine, Bumble Bee, Black Canyon City, Table Mesa, and Emery Henderson (Finish Line) aid stations. We ask crews to please follow any signage and directions from aid station staff at each aid station and please not to block any public roadways.  We ask all crews at the first three aid stations (Antelope Mesa, Hidden Treasure Mine and Bumble Bee aid stations to park on the right side of and as far off to the side of the road as possible (heading in the south direction) as to keep congestion down. Directions to crew accessible aid stations are in the 2017 Crew Manual.

Pacing
Pacers are permitted to start with their runner at the Black Canyon City (Mile 37.4) aid station. Pacers must be human and on foot. Only one pacer is allowed at a time, but pacers may switch out at the Table Mesa Aid Station (Mile 50.9). Pacers are only permitted for the 100K.

Runner Tracking
Volunteers will be located at each aid station along the course. They will be recording runner bib numbers as they pass through aid stations and be in contact with the finish line throughout the day.  If there is a problem somewhere along the trail, please report to the next aid station team.

Course Markings
The course will be well marked with orange plastic ribbons with black polka dots. Trail junctions and turns will be well marked with colorful laminated signs. Please pay attention to these signs at each junction. In addition, WRONG WAY flagging (blue & white checkerboard) and red signage will be posted to designate non-race trails. All runners are responsible for understanding the layout of the courses. Please familiarize yourself with the course maps on our website prior to race day and/or print a map to bring along with you.

Parking / Start Area
The start of the 100K & 60K is located at the Mayer High School track in Spring Valley, AZ. (17300 E. Mule Deer Drive, Spring Valley, AZ 86333) You may leave your car at the starting line in the Mayer High School parking lot. However, there is NO SHUTTLE back to Mayer High School after the race (it is only in the morning).

If you are interested in parking near the finish line of the 100K, we ask that you leave your car in the Northwest corner of the Anthem Outlets parking lot which is a 6 mile / 8 minute drive from the finish line at the Emery Henderson Trailhead. We will have shuttle vans at the finish to go back to Anthem. For 60K participants we will have parking near Rock Springs where the shuttle pickup is that morning which is also your finish line.

The restrooms will be open at the school on race morning.

Transportation (Start)
There will be a shuttle bus on race morning transporting runners from the Outlets at Anthem parking lot to Mayer High School for the 100K. A shuttle will also be available from Rock Springs for 60K runners to the start line. Tickets are available for purchase on Ultra Signup, or email us (info@aravaiparunning.com) to reserve a spot. For the 100K, please arrive to the Outlets at Anthem parking lot by 4:45am to check-in and board the bus. The bus will leave PROMPTLY at 5:10 am. For 60K runners, the buses will depart PROMPTLY at 6:30am.

Transportation (finish)
There will be a shuttle running from 2pm utnil 3am from the Emery Henderson Trailhead to the Outlets at Anthem parking to drop runners back off at their cars. This will be a continuous shuttle going back and forth and will leave from Emery Henderson each time it is at capacity.

Camping
Camping is not allowed at the start or finish lines, but is allowed in parts of Prescott National Forest.

Directions to 100K & 60K Start (Mayer High School)
If in Phoenix, head north on Interstate 17 (or south on I-17 if coming from Flagstaff) and take exit #262 for Highway 69N at Cordes Junction. Head West on Hwy 69N for 3.0 miles and turn left at Spring Lane. Take the 2nd Left onto Mule Deer Drive and park at Mayer High School near the track.

Directions to 60K Finish (Black Canyon City Trailhead)
If in Phoenix, head north on Interstate 17 (or south on I-17 if coming from Flagstaff) and take exit #242 Rock Springs / Black Canyon City. Head West and turn right at the T-intersection and an immediate left on Warner Road. Follow 1/4 mile to the Trailhead.

Directions to 100K Finish (Emery Henderson Trailhead)
If in Phoenix, head north on Interstate 17 (or south on I-17 if coming from the start line at Mayer High School or Flagstaff) and take exit #232 toward New River. Head West on New River Road for 3.0 miles and look for the Emery Henderson Trailhead on the right side.
