Taylor Nowlin
Melia Coury: I’m here with Taylor Nowlin and she just placed third at the 2016 Kendall Mountain Run, congratulations.
Taylor: Thank you.
M: And this is even your first time to Silverton? Originally from Oregon and recently moved to Colorado.
T: Yep, drove to Silverton last night got here at like 9:30 p.m. woke up and ran.
M: How is it in the day.
T: Just gorgeous. It exceeded all my expectations. And just and awesome place to run and enjoy the mountains.
M: Did you have a favorite part on the course as you were going up?
T: Oh gosh, those aid stations were magical. The first one going up had those little canisters of water and there were no cups and I was like oh shoot. Like I didn’t bring anything with me. It was really amazing when I started realizing that some of them did have cups. Because I was just like, “I’m gonna go without water dang it.” Yeah, but that final scramble was super fun. I was like bear crawling up because my legs were just done. I was trying to use as much upper body as possible. It was sweet. I loved it all.
M: Is this your fist Sky Race as well?
T: Yeah it is. Pretty sure, yeah. I loved it.
M: Do you want to do more after this?
T: Definitely. 110% I will be back.
M: Were there any parts that were really difficult for you?
T: Oh my gosh. That last section through town. Sandi came up to pass me when we were maybe like a mile out and I thought maybe I had it in the bag, I got third. Then she passed me. So I started sprinting on that last downhill. By the time I got into town my legs were just trashed. Literally I felt like I was going to stop and walk. But I somehow finished and It all worked out. But that was the hardest just because I was like, “where is the finish line?” I didn’t know where this park was so I was like, “Is it one block from here five blocks from here?” I was fighting a mental battle then.
Jamil Coury (Behind Camera): What’s your next race?
T: The Audi Power of Four! In was is it two, three weeks from now? In Aspen yep, pretty fast turn around.
M: Is that one of your bigger races this year you are trying to do well at?
T: Yeah, it is only my second 50K ever and I don’t think I have ever done that much vertical climbing in a race so we will just kind of see what happens. And then after that I think I am going to do the Grand Traverse. From Crested Butte to Aspen I think, so that’s what’s next on deck this season.
M: Awesome, best of luck.
T: Thank you.
