Timmy Parr
Melia Coury: I’m here with Timmy Parr who placed third at the 2016 Kendall Mountain Run. Congratulations.
Timmy: Thank you.
M: So I know in your pre-race interview you talked about how you like it when there is less oxygen. So what were the thoughts rolling through your head once you hit above tree line?
T: Well at that point I was in third place and there were two individuals who had been gaining on me until that point. Thought, well this is great back up to some thin oxygen and thought well I’m gonna go and try to catch them. I pushed it and slowly, felt like I was slowly closing the gap, slowly reeling them in. And was able to pull ahead and eventually pass one of them.
M: Were there any parts that were difficult for you out there?
T: I try to ignore those and throw them from my memory so I don’t remember them. No! It was all wonderful and easy everyone should come out and do this. Feel like you are on an escalator moving, going fast it was awesome. Definitely painful parts but I am trying to ignore them.
M: Hey, but you still have a smile on your face now so it must have been pretty fun.
T: It was great. My only wish was to pause time and take in all of the views up there. Because it is just so beautiful, amazing, and see all the needles, and rest of the San Juans, all of them. But unfortunately gotta keep racing.
M: And then what are your next plans, you did so well last year with the Sky (Running) series are you going to continue racing them?
T: Definitely run the Rut 22K or whatever K’s shorter and Flagstaff Champs, Sky Race Champs. Run both of those and see how it goes.
M: Awesome. Well we are excited to see you out there in Flagstaff.
T: Thank you.
M: I know you brought the family out to this race.
T: Hopefully I can do that. Not sure yet.
M: Kind of like a mini family vacation.
T: Exactly. Come to Silverton it’s hard to find a better place to go on vacation.
M: Thanks so much. Congratulations and good luck on the future.
T: Thank you.
