Javelina Jangover Race Recap 2016

Melia CouryRace Report

Get Jungover

Last night was filled with crop tops, pizza, beer, the first of two trail parties this season and oh some night running. The Javelina Jangover Night Runs is the prequel to the much larger trail running party in the desert Javelina Jundred (coming to Fountain Hills, AZ this October 29th-30th). It was a perfect night to spend some time on the Pemberton Trail in McDowell Mountain Regional Park.

The crop top game was strong in all of our race distances last night. Midriffs were displayed. This new trend has caught the running world by storm. Whether it’s the trendy style or has some breezy functional benefits we will be monitoring this trend as it unfolds at future races.

7K Race

Starting the night off with a bang, the 7K had some quick times. Christian Enriquez of Flagstaff became our male champion when he finished in 31:45! Lucas Richer all the way from Green Bay, WI followed just eight seconds back in 31:53. Then Steven Fletcher of Phoenix waltzed in with 32:48 to complete our men’s podium. The women’s race, all hailing from Arizona, finished in this order: Amy English was first in 36:22, next Emily Slater in 36:58 and Tiaree Towler in 38:46. Oh and fun fact, Tiaree is just 14 years old!

Not to be out done the 50K racers had an incredible run. Aravaipa Racing Team member, Adela Salt was our overall champion this year; she also etched in a new CR of 4:53:02. Coming in just 4 minutes after Adela was Geoffrey Foote in a time of 4:57:43. The remainder of the men’s podium came in shortly after with Miguel Moreno and Stephen Woodall finishing 5:03:03 and 5:13:49 respectively. 75K Race

The longest distance of the Javelina Jangover was not without its fair share of excitement. For the men there was a new course record (CR) set by Brett Sanborn. His time of 6:23:58 bettered his previous CR by 10 minutes set back in 2015 and was an hour better than second place, Juan Mendez (7:22:27). And another half hour later our first female Tonya Keyes strolled through the finish at a cool 8:05:19 earning her the second fastest female course time. The last few members of the podium were as follows: third for men was Robby Organ (8:54:56), second for women was Danelle Soto (9:53:03) and third for women was Erin Dial (10:21:10).

Congratulations to ALL of the runners at this year’s Javelina Jangover, 2016!

Finish Line Excitement

Keeping with tradition the energy levels at the finish line are always hyped at this event. Finishers, crew members and spectators a like cheered on their fellow running family members as they accomplished their goals. Huss Brewing’s beer and Freak Brothers Pizza was the perfect combination to replenish the crowd all night long. One customer of Freak Bros had this to say about the Pesto Madness Pizza, “(it) was the flavor combination I never knew I needed.”

Thank you to everyone that came out to help volunteer, help a runner or just to enjoy the event.
