Hayley PollackRace Report

Half way through the second day. The first update, unfortunately, needs to be that Liz Bauer has ended her 6-day early with a bum ankle as she doesn’t want to do any more damage. Hope you heal quickly, Liz!

That means there are some 6-day changes. Annabel Hepworth is back in the lead with 118 miles accumulated in 34 hours. Yolanda Holder has walked herself to 103 miles and will soon surpass Liz Bauer to officially take 2nd position. Edda Bauer is keeping the spread at 5 miles and is at 98 miles.

Dave Proctor is looking good for his first record, the Canadian 48 Hour of 221 miles, and has racked up 175 miles and needs 46 more miles in the next 14 hours. Nothing guaranteed but he is looking pretty smooth and should have this record handily. Ed Ettinghausen is 25 miles back at 150 miles and needs 67 more miles in 14 hours for the 217 USATF Men’s 55-59 record which seems to be a bit out of reach with his current average lap pace of 14:12 but motivation is a funny thing so not counting him fully out just yet. Iso Yucra is 6 laps back with 143.8 miles and is executing a pretty solid walk/run combination.

Bonus commentary, Anthony Culpepper says he feels rested and had a medical incident that forced his break earlier in the day but the plus side, he says, is he feels good now and his legs are ready to go. Still says 500 miles is possible.

Long time rivals John Geesler and Martina Hausmann are egging each other on to their respective 4,000 mile jackets – they both hold the most miles on the course and are on their way to earning said jackets this year. There are a record number of potential 1,000 mile jackets this year and we will give you an update on those tomorrow! Ed Ettinghausen has a 3,000 mile jacket waiting and Karsten Solheim is working in the aid station every day plus getting enough miles to earn his 2,000 mile jacket.

As predicted, Adela Salt is crushing today’s competition in the 24 hour and looks absolutely fantastic out on the course. She’s 66 miles in at 10:18:47 – cruising with consistent laps.

Diana Sigrist did, indeed, stop at 100 miles in the 48 hour but still leads the ladies even without logging a lap for more than 5 hours. Mark Dangerfield is leading the men in the 48 hour with 122.8 miles in 34 hours with Davy Crockett 6 laps back.

The 72-hour is still a woman’s race with Melissa Soper continuing to lead overall with 125.9 miles and Carilyn Johnson 14 laps back and 2nd overall. Of today’s starters Scott Thompson is one to watch with 46 miles in the first 10 hours and leading the men’s field that started today.
