The women’s top 2 in the 24 hour *seem* safe but 3rd is definitely not secure with Kaitlin Reed on pace to do more than 100 miles. Even if she stops at 100 it will still put her on the podium as of today. Record Watch: Pamela Chapman-Markle is looking at the USATF Women’s 60-64 road 24 hour record and would need 106.55+ miles. Pamela already holds the USATF Women’s 60-64 100 mile record with 21:29:00 which she set last December.
The current men’s 24-hour podium is not quite as safe. Florian Nattero, Tom Davies, and Vlad Henzl are all just over the 100km mark at 12 hours and could post more than 103.92 miles (current men’s lead).
In the 48-hour Misty Alessandri has 124 miles and a commanding lead even over potential later starters. Canada’s Dennene Huntly is 2nd at 120 miles and has now moved into the unknown as this is the furthest she’s ever run. Senovia Baca has moved into 3rd with 115 miles and has a solid power walk happening.
John Maroushek has officially moved into 1st place in the men’s 48-hour with 151 miles and is also moving well. John is a very consistent runner which always tends to be a strength necessary to do well at timed events but this is also the furthest John has ever run so it will be fun to see how the second overnight goes for him. Jeff Hagen has also moved on to the podium and is 3rd right now with 135 miles and could easily pass Mark Dangerfield for 2nd (Mark finished with 146.96 miles).
In the 72-hour Amy Mower has slowed a little but still well on her way to overtaking Melissa Soper’s 200 mile total with her current 188 miles. Karen Bonnet-Natraj is 3rd female with 145 miles but will not hit 200 miles so Melissa is safe in second for now.
Scott Thompson has 173 miles in the 72-hour and also has a strong power walk happening. Gary Black is threatening the current podium also with 114 miles and would need another 16 miles to overtake 3rd place.
Women’s 6-day hasn’t changed since earlier just added extra miles! Annabel Hepworth leads with 249 miles and Edda Bauer is 40 miles back with 209. Martina Hausmann, still with no long breaks, has accumulated 201 miles on the course. 105 miles left for Martina to hit her 305 goal – which puts her at 4,000 lifetime miles. To watch: Claudia Newsome is only 9 miles behind Martina. The ladies top three is by no means set.
Dave Proctor is, unsurprisingly, still leading with 360 miles in the men’s 6-day race. Ed Ettinghausen has 286.58 miles. He needs to accumulate 439.78 total miles to earn his 3,000 mile lifetime jacket. Ed is currently 3rd overall in lifetime mileage at Across The Years (behind John Geesler and Martina Hausmann). Iso Yucra is 3rd with 257.19 miles and Bill Heldenbrand is truly amazing to watch and still running quite a bit with 234.09 miles done.
There’s still a lot of time left with 2.5 days left on the clock. Tonight is the Across The Years New Year Celebration – where champagne and sparkling grape juice toasts, noise makers, party hats, Auld Lang Syne and a group mile are all part of the experience. Stay tuned for photos of this coming tomorrow morning!
