Pass Mountain 50K Race Report

Bryce BrooksRace Report

The 2021 Pass Mountain 50K was the first official ultramarathon that I finished. It wasn’t pretty, but I got it done… A little back story about my running career before I jump into the race: In 2019 I hiked the Arizona Trail with my good friend, Dylan Harris. After returning from the 34-day long hike, I felt like I had built up the endurance to easily run a marathon distance or more. Fast forward 1 year later I found myself driving to Austin, Texas to run the Austin Rattler Race 66K with Dylan and Joe Holway. I ended up DNFing around mile 35 and was in rough shape.  A few months after swearing off ultramarathons …

Pass Mountain Trail Runs 2016

Melia CouryRace Report

Rays of light blew in with a cooling breeze making the desert air chilly in the early morning. The 50K runners worked their way to the start line and began just as the sun crept over the horizon. Truly poetic how their newest running journey began with the promise of a new day. The other runners experiencing the remaining distances would soon get to join. Singing Happy Birthday It just so happened that there were two runners celebrating their Birthdays with a 25K run! Of course it was only right for us to sing “Happy Birthday” to both of them as the runners lined up to the start line.  Robert Herron (Left) and Robby Organ …

Travis Swaim, Pass Mountain 2016

Melia CouryPost-Race Interview

Travis Swaim Melia Coury: Hi, I’m Melia Coury here with Aravaipa Running and Travis Swaim. Travis Swaim: Hello. Melia: And you just set a new course record today at our 25K for Pass Mountain. Travis: Yeah it was pretty awesome. I heard it was held by Jamil so I had to gun for that one. He’s a legend so it’s fun to chase after him. M: Yeah…so you just signed up this morning is that correct? T: Yeah, I’ve been having some leg issues and I did Ragnar last weekend. So having to do the quick go and stop but I decided to give today a try. But I think it went well. M: Sounds …

Aravaipa Pass Mountain 50K Race Report: Hooray for Pizza and Coke!

Amber FifieldRace Report, Uncategorized

Le sigh. My life is a whirlwind of my own making. I keep telling myself the frantic pace will calm down eventually. I am about 95% sure this is true. Of course in addition to my already frenetic life, I must run far. It’s fun. Pass Mountain 50K. Honestly I was in no better condition for it than for the Cave Creek 50K, but I went out to finish it. Why not? My longest training run this time consisted of pacing my dear friend Kathi to her 3rd place finish at the Javelina Jundred K– this was about 15.5 miles. While that’s better than my 10 mile long runs for Cave Creek, it’s not much better. …

2011 Pass Mountain Report

Jamil CouryRace Report

The 2nd edition of the Pass Mountain Trail Runs featured slightly modified courses of the 50 Km and 26 Km routes and the consolidation of last year’s 10 Mile and 9 Km into a single 11 Km race.  With an overall entry limit of 200 runners, we knew we could only offer three race distances this year.  During race week, the race sold out (the 2nd DRT Series race in a row to sell out) and we were primed to have 200 runners join us for a beautiful day out at Usery Mountain Regional Park. The changes to the two longer courses were slight: we moved runners from the sandy and convoluted Channel Trail up …

2011 Pass Mountain Preview

Jamil CouryRace Preview

The second annual Pass Mountain Trail Runs will feature 50 Kilometer, 26 Kilometer and 11 Kilometer race distances on trails within Usery Mountain Regional Park and the Tonto National Forest.  This is the only race in the DRT Series that ventures outside of the regional park system and onto Forest Service land.  The views from atop the saddle on the Pass Mountain Trail are quite spectacular, with the Goldfield Mountains spreading out to the east towards the Superstitions, and views of the Salt River to the north. While the 11K features little elevation gain (with the exception of going over Cat Peaks), the 26K and 50K courses will conquer an 800 foot climb up …

McDowell Mountain Frenzy 50K – Race Report

Bryce BrooksRace Report

The Desert Runner Trail (DRT) Series consists of 7 total events: Pass Mountain, McDowell Mountain Frenzy and Cave Creek Thriller in the Fall Series and San Tan Scramble, Coldwater Rumble, Elephant Mountain and Mesquite Canyon in the Spring Series.  Pass Mountain, the first race in the DRT series, was my first attempt at the 50K distance and it hadn’t gone exactly as I had hoped. I went out too hot and blew up in spectacular fashion. Here’s a link to that race report if you’re interested! McDowell was my second attempt at a 50K, and I was going into it with the specific goal of running the race at my own pace. After going out too fast …
