Join Aravaipa Running this September through the end of the year for a virtual event that challenges runners and cyclists to rediscover their city, their town, or their neighborhood.
Inspired by Ricky Gates' Every Single Street project where he toured the streets of San Francisco, we are asking runners everywhere to connect to each other by sharing their hometown with this virtual community.
We've all held fast to our homes this year so we want challenge runners to take us on a tour of their home and perhaps in the process discover something new for themselves. Show us the streets where you run, the parks where you play, or the buildings where you work. Run or bike by the schools, the street vendors, or the ball parks, and share with us the parts of your city you love most.
The concept is simple. There is no set distance; you choose how far you want to go. You can choose to explore every street in a zip code, a neighborhood, a city, or a town. You choose your route and how much you want to run or bike. Map and track your progress. Then share with us your adventure.
Participants can choose to run, walk or bike the challenge.
Rediscover your home and share Every Damn Street with us!
Not a road runner? Not a problem. We couldn't forget about the lovers of dirt and hurt! Many of us are connected already by the trails we travel and the stories of adventure we share with each other. This challenge extends beyond the reach of the city streets and begs runners to bring us along the winding and rolling trails where they find more than a pretty landscape.
What park or trail system made you fall for trail running? Or is there a spot on the map you've always longed to explore? Every Damn Trail invites you to trace every line on the map. Choose a regional or state park, recreation area, or local trail system. Highlight your favorite corner of the universe and share with us the views, the climbs, or perhaps a new discovery as you dare to tread upon Every Damn Trail.
The concept is the same. There is no set distance, just a desire to discover where the lines on map lead. Runners have to the end of the year to trace a treasure and run as much and as often as they choose. Your goal is simple: run every damn trail you can. Map your run and track your progress. Then share with us your adventure. Aravaipa phoenix locals: check out our local challenge below!
Participants can choose to run, walk, or bike the challenge.
Travel the trails as far as they lead and share Every Damn Trail with us for the rest of 2020!
Every Damn Street and Every Damn Trail is a virtual challenge that focuses less on distance and pace and more on the opportunity to discover something new in your community. How often in the hurried pace of daily life do you miss the nuances of each street or trail you travel every day? This challenge encourages you as a runner or cyclist to get to know your city streets and share your community with our community. Participants will have the rest of 2020 to go as far as they can!
Map It
Dust of your local maps or highlight your local park map to create a custom course for this virtual challenge. Research the outlines of your favorite neighborhood or zip code using GoogleMaps, or draw your course in advance using tools like Caltopo. Or you can simply put pen to paper and highlight your map as you go. There is no limit to the streets or trails you wish to explore.
Track It
Wherever you choose to explore your challenge, make sure to track it! You can track your progress by using a variety of apps on your smartphone like Strava or MapMyRun. You can also use a GPS watch.
Participants can submit their final map and distance at the end of December or when complete. Click the button that says "Submit Results" and follow the directions to upload your results.
Road or Trail
This challenge is open to both trail and road users alike. Participants get to choose their preferred terrain and course which allows for a fully customized challenge. This challenge is open to every level and offers the opportunity to keep training and keep pushing toward the next mile. Choose Every Damn Street or Every Damn Trail at registration.
Run or Ride
Every Damn Street and Every Damn Trail can be completed either on foot or on bike or by a combination of the two. The challenge is open to anyone who wants to explore their local streets or trails!
Uploading Results
This challenge is designed to encourage participants to explore their area with a mix of running, hiking, or biking. Results therefore will not be ranked based on total mileage or time, but will be listed by name. Finishers will submit their region, mileage, and a link or photo of their completed map to share with the community to celebrate your accomplishments!
Check out our Every Damn Street/Trail Facebook group for extra motivation and accountability.
