We have a course update for the 2019 Black Canyon Ultras. As of this point in time we are planning on the full point to point courses for the 100K & 60K races. The 100K course will follow the slightly modified “Little Pan Route” which will change the position of the Cottonwood Gulch aid station but keeps the length similar to the normal course.
River flows on the Agua Fria are currently high and fast, but much of this water will be shed today and this evening. We anticipate based upon past river events, speaking with the National Weather Service and looking at the current forecast which does not call for any additional precipitation that the river crossings will be safe to cross by tomorrow late morning and into the afternoon.
We will be closely monitoring the drop in gauge height of the river and discharge levels tonight. If there is a deviation from our predictive models and our visits to the crossings tonight provide us with the data and our first hand experience, we may still need to implement the “High Water Route” which could still be put into effect as late as race morning. Our staff, communications and medical are all prepared if that scenario does occur.
I think we would all prefer the full point to point route and that is what we are hoping does happen. We ask you continue to be flexible as we move towards having a safe and successful race this weekend.
