50K & Marathon (~26.7 Mile) Loop
Location: San Juan Mountains, Colorado

Get ready to experience an epic trail adventure! The 50K and Marathon (~26.7 miles) loop takes you through the heart of the San Juan Mountains, following the historic Alpine Loop jeep roads. Along the way, you’ll pass through ghost mining towns such as Howardsville, Eureka, Animas Forks, and Gladstone. The course’s high point is California Pass, sitting at a breathtaking 12,930 feet!

For those running the 8-mile out-and-back, you’ll get a taste of the Alpine Loop as you make your way to Howardsville and back.

The course follows the Alpine Loop jeep roads, passing through the ghost mining towns of Howardsville, Eureka, Animas Forks, and Gladstone. This scenic route provides runners with a unique adventure through the historic and rugged terrain of the San Juan Mountains.

OHV Traffic Advisory
Please note that the Silverton Alpine Loop is open to recreational vehicles during the summer season, including race day. Depending on trail and road conditions, OHV traffic may create dusty environments for runners. We recommend carrying a bandana or neck gaiter and sunglasses to help shield against any dust that may occur along the route.

Looking for a Unique Experience?
Check out the incredible, completely off-grid accommodations provided by Red Mountain Alpine Lodge. This is a hike-in only spot off Red Mountain pass, sure to be a memorable stay! (They even have a wood-burning sauna!)

In Town options For a small town, Silverton has many lodging options. From campgrounds, motels, hotels, and VRBO's, there are plenty of spots to choose from.

Please respect the trails and the beauty of the land by disposing of any trash at one of our aid stations. Do not throw trash on the ground–runners caught littering will be disqualified. We ask that you practice “Leave No Trace” along the course to ensure the race continues for many years.

Cupless Race
In our continued effort to reduce our races footprint and preserve the trails we love, the Kendall Mountain Run will be a cupless event. Runners will be responsible for carrying their own container to refill along the way. UltrAspire reusable cups may be purchased with registration or on race day OR we encourage you to bring your own! Grab a cup, a hydration vest, pouch, or water bottle and we will fill it at each aid station along the way. We ask you to help us in our efforts by preparing for a cup free race day and thank you in advance for being good stewards of the trails!
