50 Mile Event Details

The 50 Mile begins at the Fort Valley Trailhead. The first few miles are relatively easy as you'll run Forest Roads until you reach Fort Valley Aid Station at mile 2.5. After the aid station, you'll jump onto single track and steadily climb for the next seven miles. There are some steep sections as you approach Arizona Snowbowl. Enjoy the Powerline Climb!

The Snowbowl Aid at mile 9.5 is the high point of the course at 9300'. After Snowbowl Aid, you'll make your way through some beautiful aspens and head northbound on the Arizona Trail. You'll follow the AZT all the way to FS418 in the White Horse Hills area. There is another aid station shortly after this turn.

The next section is mostly on FS418 with one small section of single track... and it's largely downhill! A great chance for some fast and efficient miles. The views looking to the north are gorgeous.

Once you hit Hostetter Aid, you'll begin your climb to the Lockett Meadow Campground. Do a short lap around the camping area, take in the sights, and start your descent on FS553. This forest "road" is quite rocky and steep in some places. You'll finish your descent at 420 aid.

Leaving the 420 Aid Station, you take FS420 all the way to Schultz Pass. This road is smooth, rolling, and closed to traffic. Most of your elevation gain in this section comes in the last few miles before Schultz Pass Aid Station.

After Schultz Pass, you have one more challenge... the Weatherford Climb. This trail can be overgrown and there are some deadfalls to climb over or shimmy under. Once you hit the Kachina Wilderness boundary, you'll start heading back south. It's all downhill from here! You'll descend via the "Moto" trail. Lots of rocks and a couple of logs to dodge. The trail is downhill, but I wouldn't consider it fast.

After you hit Fort Valley Aid Station for the second time, it's just 2.5 miles of smooth forest road to the finish!

Crews are welcome at the start/finish, White Horse Aid Station (18.3), and Hostetter Aid Station (27.2).

Pacers can enter/exit the course at Hostetter Aid Station (27.2), or 420 Aid Station (34.8).

Pacers are allowed to run all the way to the finish, and take food/drink at aid stations.

Pacers do not need a bib, nor do they need to check in/out.

No muling allowed (carrying food/gear for the runner).

10 KM Event Details

The 10K course starts at Fort Valley Trailhead and jumps onto single track right away.

For the first half of the race, runners will gradually climb on Flue, Moto, and Poker trails. The Poker Loop section has some rocky spots, but nothing too bad.

Once runners reach the junction with the Arizona Trail, they'll take a left and hit the Fort Valley Aid Station.

After the aid station, it's only 2.5 miles downhill to the finish on forest roads. Time to fly!

Owned and operated by the Arizona Snowbowl, these facilities are only minutes northwest of Flagstaff at the base of the San Francisco Peaks. Close to all of the northern Arizona attractions, including the Grand Canyon, Route 66 and the Museum of Northern Arizona. This location allows for direct access into the Coconino National Forest for hiking and biking adventures. This is the closest lodging option to the finish line at Arizona Snowbowl but a little further from restaurants and shops in downtown Flagstaff.

We appreciate our volunteers! For many volunteering is rewarding in its own right and a great way to give back to the running community. For others, it is a way to see things from the other side of the table, and learn a lot about running races before jumping into them.

Volunteer Restrictions:

Setup and Breakdown volunteers must be at least 16 years of age.
Families are welcome to help at aid stations but credits will only be issued for children ages 12 and above.
Volunteer Credits must be used via Ultra Signup or mail-in registration and are not able to be credited for any registrations done at packet pick-up or race-day.
For safety reasons course sweeps are limited to one sweeping shift and must be fresh at the start of their shift (please, no racing earlier in the day and sweeping later).

Course Marking: We use orange & black polka dot ribbons as well as orange pin flags with the Aravaipa Running logo on them. At critical turns, there may be signs that will state your race distance so be sure to check all signs before continuing.
NOTE: the 2023 trail junction signs may say “25K” rather than the updated distances this year which are actually “26K”.
If you see blue and white checkered ribbons, those are the wrong way ribbons. Turn around and find the orange and black polka dot ribbons or orange pin flags and continue on course.
